The point, however, as Danielle Henderson notes in her accompanying article, is that this is not a tale about the future but an allegory for the current status of women in a society still dominated by men. The story itself is about the second-class status of women in a patriarchal society, where those women deemed to be “non-compliant” are shipped off-world to an “auxilliary compliance outpost” referred to on Earth as “Bitch Planet”. The first issue sets up what looks like a story that will be worth sticking with, a story that is also driven along by the bold lines and block colours of Valentine De Landro. After her success with Captain Marvel and Pretty Deadly I was very much looking forward to the first issue of Bitch Planet, and I have to say that I wasn’t disappointed. ![]()
